Role Summary

The Viral Vaccine group is seeking a non-PhD scientist to join our highly dynamic team in vaccine research and development. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the antigen discovery, antigen optimization, and the assessment of protein quality. The incumbent will assist with protein expression in bacterial and mammalian suspension cell culture and protein purification using various chromatography techniques (affinity, IEX, HIC, SEC) based on AKTA FPLC system. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining cell lines, supporting protein and antibody biochemical characterization studies, and daily laboratory operations. Work is to be done in a compliant manner according to relevant SOP guidelines and cGLP and/or cGMP guidelines where appropriate. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, work well in a team environment, and be adaptable to a dynamic environment.

Role Responsibilities
  • Support recombinant protein expression, purification, and molecular biology through cell culture expression (bacterial & mammalian), chromatographic protein purification (such as affinity, IEX, HIC, SEC) and a variety of protein analytical techniques.
  • Support constructs preparation through various molecular biology techniques such as Gibson assembly, PCR, DNA preparation.
  • Analyze immune responses to vaccine candidates using techniques that include (but are not limited to) cell culture, neutralization assays, ELISAs, and Octet for antibody characterization.
  • Independently interpret and summarize experimental data. Present experimental results at group meetings.
  • Generate and characterize reagents used to perform necessary assays and support maintenance of laboratory supplies.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks in compliance with the Pfizer Laboratory Notebook Policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Satisfactorily complete all safety training in conformance with Departmental requirements. Where applicable, performs job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP/GLP and all other regulatory agency requirements.


Qualifications
  • Non-PhD position. Master's degree in Biochemistry with 4+ years of industry research experience, or B.S. with 8-10 years of industry laboratory research experience.
  • Knowledge of protein expression and purification is required. Experience with AKTA FPLC system is required.
  • Knowledge of methods in virology and immunology highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with personal computers including Word, Excel or Graphpad Prism, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Basic laboratory training in aseptic technique is essential.
  • Ability to work with infectious agents safely.
  • The capacity to work effectively in a highly visible research program with time-constrained milestones.
