ROLE SUMMARY

This position for a Project Manager at Senior Manager level is to support projects arising from Pfizer's Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI), specifically those arising from CTI's California labs in San Francisco and San Diego.

The Project Manager supports CTI Project Leaders to ensure efficient advancement of CTI California's portfolio of novel therapeutics from discovery to Phase I/IIa clinical development. He/she ensures that the operational deliverables of all CTI California projects are achieved on or ahead of schedule and within cost targets such that they meet the desired outcomes (i.e. quality standard, value) and business deliverables.

The successful candidate has good understanding of pharmaceutical R&D strategy and operations. He/she has a keen attention to detail and works with Project Leaders, Research Unit and Partner Line subject matter experts and senior management to plan and coordinate critical path activities and meet projected timelines/goals, thereby making valuable contributions to ensuring that overall project and portfolio strategy is achieved. He/she has experience working with external academic collaborators and understands the differences between industry and academic environments. The candidate must be a self-starter who is able to multitask, influence cross-functional project teams, work across global sites and work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must. The candidate will also be expected to fully embrace and embody the entrepreneurial spirit and biotech-like culture, values and goals of CTI and its parent ES&I (Emerging Sciences & Innovation) organization, and contribute to creating an exciting, productive and scientifically rigorous working environment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Manager will lead portfolio and project management activities for CTI preclinical and certain early clinical programs at the California sites, including:
  • In collaboration with CTI's Project Leaders, Research Units and Partner Lines, plan and coordinate execution of critical-path project activities for multiple biologics and small molecule projects, spanning all stages from discovery to early clinical development;
  • Work with project teams to drive clear action items, facilitate decision making and navigate governance processes.
  • Support the project teams to evaluate strategies, analyze and identify project risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate planned activities with Pfizer Partner Lines to ensure projects are executed in a timely manner and within the allocated budget.
  • Manage project costs and work with the Finance group to track payments, including those associated with activities that are conducted by CTI academic partners.
  • Support alliance management activities, working with project teams and academic investigators to ensure the smooth running of all project start-up, running, and close-out activities including reagent and funding transfers between institutions.
  • Support the implementation of project management best practices and associated tools across CTI.
  • Support the tracking and analytics of the CTI portfolio, alongside project and portfolio level reporting to R&D stakeholders.
  • Support portfolio and financial planning assignments.


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Required:
  • Bachelors (BS/BA) degree or equivalent in Life Sciences.
  • Experience with industry-academic alliances.


Preferred:
  • Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD)
  • PMP certification
  • Familiarity with Pfizer organization and processes


NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • May be based at either CTI San Francisco or San Diego sites, with travel to the other site (pending current travel restrictions).
