Senior Scientist (non-PhD), Immuno-Oncology

The Immuno-Oncology & Combinations Research Unit (IOC RU) is seeking a highly motivated lab-based scientist with experience in cancer immunology/immunotherapy to join the team. The successful candidate will design and deliver biological work packages to support the identification and validation of novel targets and combination opportunities through functional genomics.

With strong experience in immunology/ immunotherapy, you will be responsible for designing and developing novel, robust, in vitro cell-based immuno-oncology assays that recapitulate disease-relevant biology; these assays will be scaled by the aligned functional genomics platform teams and used as screens to identify hits for novel targets and combination approaches. Subsequent target validation of hits emerging from theses screens will be performed by IOC RU and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be an essential contributor to these efforts. This is an exciting lab-based role that will allow the successful candidate to have a critical contribution to our efforts to identify novel drug targets and clinical combination opportunities for immuno-oncology at GSK.

You will need to be a creative, innovative self-starter, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will be accountable for generating high quality, robust data and must have an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary matrix team. Additionally, the successful candidate will need to be proactive, open to the ideas of others and have a deep curiosity and enthusiasm for learning novel approaches and techniques.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. with 5 years or M.S. with 3 years of academic or biopharmaceutical research experience in immunology or immuno-oncology.
  • Experience in aseptic primary human immune cell culture (e.g. PBMCs)
  • Experience in characterization of immune cell function by phenotypic and functional assays such as multi-colour flow cytometry, ELISAs and multiplex cytokine assays.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience of small scale CRISPR/gene editing/functional genomics would be advantageous.
  • Prior experience with a broad range of immune cell types (eg. B cells, macrophages etc.) would be advantageous.
  • Any prior exposure to high throughput screening efforts and the considerations required for optimizing assays for these screens would be beneficial.
  • Track record of independent thinking and problem-solving
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead from the bench and to work in a team to achieve group objectives
