Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) High-Throughput Protein Production (HTP) group is seeking a highly motivated logical scientist with experience in protein purification, cell culture and molecular biology. The candidate will play a critical role in a core group responsible for high-throughput cloning, expression & purification of hundreds of antibodies on a microgram-to-milligram scale and be an advocate for utilizing various automation platforms. The candidate will be responsible for high throughput protein production, quantitation and, characterization as well as high-throughput cloning, interacting with project teams and updating of the laboratory database. The candidate will contribute to group-wide deliverables, work on several projects simultaneously, and present results and updates at group and project meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • High-throughput automated antibody purification, quantification and characterization using liquid handling automation.
  • Optimization of the automated processes throughout the HTP workflow.
  • HTP Mammalian cell culture, cloning and mammalian transfection using automated platforms.
  • Organization and storage of DNA and protein samples, including tracking using Genedata Biologics Software, as well as record keeping using electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Close interaction with protein engineering project teams to plan and coordinate protein production.
  • Regular review of literature to m aintain knowledge of scientific trends and industry processes, advance molecular biology and protein production methods.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors Degree with 6+ years relevant experience OR Master's Degree with 4+ years relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience includes; Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Biological Engineering or a related discipline along with a basic understanding of antibodies and protein production.
  • Track record of strong problem solving and organizational skills, orientation to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, work under strict deadlines, and remain flexible with changing needs.
  • Ability to work effectively to solve process development problems and implement improved procedures.
  • Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2 years of experience and demonstrated technical proficiency in protein purification using affinity and traditional chromatographic techniques preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with using laboratory automation, including writing and troubleshooting protocols preferred.
  • 2 years of experience and demonstrated technical proficiency in molecular biology: PCR, molecular cloning, construct design, sequence analysis preferred.
  • Industry experience in molecular biology/antibodies/therapeutic protein purification
  • Experience with high throughput sample tracking and laboratory logistics software
  • Prior experience in therapeutic protein discovery and biochemistry research
  • Experience of using logic for problem solving
  • Experience writing and understanding methods for laboratory automation technologies
  • Understanding of state-of-the-art gene synthesis
