ROLE SUMMARY

The Digital Medicine & Translational Imaging group (DMTI) in Early Clinical Development is seeking an experienced data science leader to drive the development, validation, and deployment of analytics solutions to support the use of digital measures of health in clinical trials across therapeutic areas at Pfizer. This role will be central to the selection of devices and the development and implementation of plans to scale deployment of devices and analytical solutions into clinical trials. The successful candidate will lead a diverse team of data scientists with backgrounds in computer science, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering and biomechanics. This team works closely with Pfizer clinicians and scientists, as well as external partners, to translate and industrialize wearable technology-based solutions into clinical use.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads the development and implementation of novel algorithms for monitoring health using wearable and connected devices by leveraging machine learning, signal processing, and statistical modeling expertise across DMTI projects.
  • Manages, leads and develops a team of data scientists to conduct all relevant activities across all DMTI projects.
  • Works with research project leads and project managers to monitor progress, mitigate technical risk, and implement processes to ensure timely delivery of data analytics solutions.
  • Provides oversight for external vendors and service organizations that are delivering key technology and analytics capabilities for advancing the adoption of digital tools in clinical trials.
  • Builds a portfolio of analytics capabilities that can be leveraged to accelerate the development of digital biomarkers and digital clinical measures for current and future projects.
  • Works with internal (e.g. Business Technology (BT), asset teams, data informatics, statistics) and external stakeholders (e.g. vendors, CROs) on developing best practices for data analytics as well as scaling and deploying those analytics in clinical trials.
  • Serves as main data science point of contact for project leads, operational colleagues, external collaborators and study sites.
  • Provides thought leadership on adoption of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning for developing new digital biomarkers.
  • Responsible for ensuring strong partnership with academic collaborators and influencing the external environment in adoption of AI, machine learning, and digital clinical measures.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS with 10+ years of experience or PhD with 7+ years of experience in biomedical engineering, computer science, applied math, or related discipline.
  • Strong background in developing, validating and deploying digital health monitoring solutions that use wearable and connected devices.
  • Excellent knowledge of supervised/unsupervised machine learning techniques, signal processing, statistical modeling and time­ series analysis in drug development/healthcare/clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated programming skills in Python, R and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience building and managing a team of data scientists with diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Ability to influence and drive cooperation among internal and external colleagues from multiple disciplines including physicians, scientists, statisticians, quality assurance and business technology partners.
  • Understanding of product development processes; Experience driving device and/or software development from concept, through bench top and human subjects research, into prototypes and through verification and validation testing.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience deploying analytics solutions at scale using cloud technologies like AWS.
  • Familiarity with medical device regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of the drug development processes and experience in the pharma industry.
