SUMMARY: Direct Clinical/Patient Care

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Patient Care

Collaborate with physician and team in the management of Surgical Oncology. Position is primarily with GI/Melanoma Surgery - Outpatient Clinic; may involve some outpatient and OR first-assist responsibilities. Patients may also be from other areas of the department (GI, Melanoma, Sarcoma, Endocrine, Port Clinic, Breast Cancer). Employee demonstrates population-based competencies (age-specific, diversity) that cross the continuum of care. Employee functions within their professional scope in their assigned area. Collaborate with the physician and team members in the clinical care and patients while in the hospital.

Medical Knowledge

Employee will demonstrate medical knowledge in the care of Surgical Oncology patients. Will be knowledgeable and possess proficiency as well as skills in the care and management of Surgical Oncology patients especially colorectal and endocrine surgery patients.

Professionalism

Employee demonstrates commitment to collaborative professional relationships with physicians and all members of the heath care team.

Practice-Based Learning

Employee participates in on-going learning and demonstrates application of it in his/her role.

System-Based Practice

Employee demonstrates his/her impact on the system of care.

EDUCATION
Required: Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.
