The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at UCL is recognised as one of the leading Departments for research in its subject area worldwide.  To further enhance and shape the future of research in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at one of the leading and most prestigious Universities in the UK, the Department wishes to make an appointment at Lecturer level to start from 1st January 2021.

The primary task of the person appointed will be:  to undertake world-class research in her/his area of research, to initiate and develop an independent and creative research program,  and to contribute to the teaching programme in the Department of EEE. The appointee will perform the normal administrative duties expected of a member of academic staff as required by the Head of Department.

The postholder will be expected to conduct a vigorous, high-level personal research programme in the area Machine Learning Systems Engineering, supervise PhD students and publish high-profile refereed journal papers.

We would expect the candidate to contribute to a range of teaching within the Department of EEE and the UCL Engineering Faculty including, but not limited to, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Data Engineering related courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including in our recently launched Master Programme in Integrated Machine Learning Systems. This is in addition to curriculum development and project supervision.

The postholder will be expected to attend, and where needed, lead relevant EEE committee meetings, assist with staff recruitment and mentor EEE staff as appropriate as well as promoting, both within and outside UCL, the work of EEE.

For this appointment, we seek top-level candidates with an outstanding research record in the broad field of machine learning systems engineering, with expertise/experience in how to tackle foundational, algorithmic, and system level challenges in data acquisition, analysis, and processing. 

A demonstrated track record of publications in international journals and conferences relevant to Machine Learning Systems Engineering is essential as is experience / expertise in Machine Learning, Data Engineering or Data Science. Candidates should have the ability to inspire students and research staff to achieve their full potential and have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience of teaching in a university environment is desirable.
