The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA headquarters:

SENIOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHER - IN VITRO HUMAN BRAIN MODELING

Description
We are seeking an independent and creative researcher for a Senior Scientific Researcher position to support discovery research and drug discovery efforts within the Department of Neuroscience at Genentech.  This is an exciting opportunity to build an in vitro human brain modeling platform to help us understand molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease and pathology. The successful candidate will develop human stem cell-based in vitro models to understand the basic molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art resources at Genentech and will work in our fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Who You Are
Candidates must have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, neuroscience or developmental biology or similar degree, with a focus on applications of stem cell technology to neurological disorders. Candidates in both academic or industry settings are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate should be fearless and resilient in pursuing novel technologies and methods to generate complex human cellular models. Exceptional productivity needs to be evidenced by high-quality work published in high-impact journals or by contributions to stem cell technology in neuroscience drug discovery.  The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-focused, multiple shots-on-goal, and collaborative environment.

Hands-on experience with iPS cell culture, multi-lineage differentiation of CNS cell types, novel differentiation methods such as direct differentiation, complex systems such as brain organoids or co-cultures, and genetic manipulation of such models by CRISPR/Cas9 are required.  Experience in practical applications of stem cell technology to target validation and drug prioritization as well as automation and assay development are desired.
