Position Purpose: To advance the WRD portfolio through developing and executing animal models of disease.

Role Summary: To collaborate with Pfizer Research Unit scientists and Investigative partners to develop and execute animal models of disease and provide non-invasive imaging (micro-CT, echocardiography, IVIS, FMT, photoacoustic and elastography, etc.) and other scientific methods support to advance the Pfizer portfolio .

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with Pfizer Research Unit scientists and Investigative Partners to develop and execute animal models of disease.
  • Independently perform in vivo and other scientific studies utilizing a variety of techniques and non-invasive imaging technologies (micro-CT, echocardiography, IVIS and FMT and elastography, etc.) in support of the Pfizer therapeutic portfolio.
  • Ensure flawless animal care and welfare in conducting research studies through study.
  • Design and implementation and championing the "3Rs" principles.
  • Work with research project teams to define study needs and to interpret and report study results.
  • Liaise with the Research Unit scientists and other investigative partners to best utilize Global Science and Technology (GST) resources to support the therapeutic portfolio.
  • Produce study reports, posters, presentations, and other project communications, and contribute to manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Develop new techniques and technologies for in vivo research and operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in group, departmental, and Pfizer teams for improving process or other organizational endeavors.
  • May be required to follow one of the subsequent: the United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, Public Health Service Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS/BA in biology or related field required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in scientific research.
  • Independent study conducts and proficiency in multiple laboratories and in vivo techniques.
  • Experience in directing and conducting studies and project team reporting.
  • Has contributed to manuscripts and reports and made internal presentations.
  • Familiarity with one or several biomedical imaging modalities such as echocardiography, elastography, micro-CT, optical imaging (IVIS FMT,) and other methods.
  • Applicant should have functional knowledge of Microsoft Office


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a drug discovery setting.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, calendar management and Internet Explorer.
  • Colleagues should be able to use on line systems such as time tracking and document management . (e.g. SharePoint, Activity Tracker).
  • Knowledge and use of other systems based upon job function may be required.
