GSK is seeking a highly motivated, experienced analytical scientist with demonstrated capability in the purification of small molecule pharmaceuticals to join the US purification team. In this laboratory-based position, the successful candidate will perform analytical analysis, method development and preparative separations of both achiral and chiral compounds utilizing HPLC, LCMS and SFC platforms to advance small molecule drug discovery programs.

The position requires an individual with strong analytical, technical, reporting and personal skills, some experience of team or matrix management and a commitment to further personal development in both technical and leadership areas.

The US Purification Group is a multidisciplinary team that is part of a global Discovery Analytical department. The Purification Group works with project teams to progress the discovery and development of small molecules from hit identification through early development. This position will help to enable the effective partnership of chemistry teams from Medicinal and Development Chemistry with Discovery Analytical.

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Function as a technical expert for chromatographic analysis and purification
  • Perform preparative purifications on multi-gram samples
  • Interpret chromatographic data and develop unique chromatographic methods
  • Ability to use multiple chromatographic software
  • Strong desire to learn with multifunctional learning agility
  • Self-motivated
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design purification process
  • Ability to analyze chromatographic data and make decisions for follow up experiments.
  • Maintain and repair analytical and preparative instrumentation as needed.
  • Track work effort
  • Train junior colleagues in chromatographic analysis and purification


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD or MS with 5+ years' experience or BS with 8+ years' experience
  • Hands on experience with analytical method development and preparative chromatography for small molecule chiral and achiral pharmaceutical compounds.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and working experience with multiple analytical and preparative techniques.


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Advanced knowledge of chiral chromatography as demonstrated by presentations, posters and/or publications
  • Background in associated analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry
  • Experience with large scale purifications (>100 G) using both HPLC and SFC
  • Experience training and mentoring junior scientists
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment within and external to the team to solve problems
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication
