A Medical Affairs Scientific/Medical Director has a strong clinical and scientific training and is capable of taking on many aspects of medical affairs (clinical and economic evidence generation, external and scientific engagement, provision of medical advice to internal stakeholders). The focus of the scientist is to be involved with the brand strategy, clinical studies for evidence generation, lead or support external engagement and provide insight and deeper understanding of the data generated including recommending medical claims.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the US Medical Affairs Plan (UMAP) and the medical sections for the strategic launch plan for one or more medicines.
  • Contributes to defined US medical affairs work for a medicine(s), supporting global franchises, US medical affairs matrix team(s) and US medical commercial strategy team(s).
  • Leads planning and execution of medical tactics; contributes to medical material development, communication plans, application of customer insight
  • Integrates US environment needs and medical voice of customer (patients, providers, payers) into medical affairs strategy ensuring the US environment needs for medical and health outcomes evidence generation are represented and incorporated into the global medical work.
  • Recommends scientifically appropriate measures within health outcomes research over the lifecycle of the medicine(s) to meet US reimbursement needs.
  • Understands, interprets and applies the external environment and competitive knowledge in all medical plans and is able to define the medical story for the patient.
  • Provides input into the design of Phase IIIB/IV studies and selection of investigator sponsored studies in alignment with the global franchises.
  • In collaboration with field medical, leads/contributes to appropriate US scientific engagement between GSK and external communities in order to advance scientific and medical understanding including the appropriate development and use of our medicines, the management of disease, and patient care.
  • Partners with all stakeholders to ensure delivery of all assigned medical activities to support life cycle management, ensuring integrity of scientific content.
  • Applies sound medical governance for all activities.
  • Support the USMAL or Medical Affairs TAH as needed.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • PharmD, PhD, nursing, allied health professional (eg. Epidemiology) or other scientific degree
  • Oncology experience - significant disease and therapeutic area knowledge
  • Broad drug development experience with robust knowledge of GCP regulatory/ market access and reimbursement requirements
  • Must be aware of US healthcare environment and needs of external customers.Deep clinical and scientific understanding including how to design clinical studies for evidence generation and evaluate data.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to deliver on all key responsibilities.
  • Maintenance of product(s) and disease knowledge.
  • Adaptable to change - ability to influence/lead to deliver results. Does not need to have direct leadership (line management) experience.
  • Continuous improvement - ability to drive a performance based culture.
