What does GSK Medical Affairs do?

Medical Affairs plays a critical role in the development and delivery of new products to patients. Core accountabilities include:
  • External Engagement: We focus on strengthening our global, regional and local relationships with patient organizations, Healthcare Professionals and Payers to understand their needs and inform disease area and asset development strategies
  • Scientific Communication: We provide a ONE Voice approach to data dissemination and medical education for GSK assets and medicines
  • Evidence Generation: We leveraging patient driven science to deliver innovative and relevant data through investigator sponsored program, systematic medical impact analyses and rapid decision making
  • Patient Access: We seek to provide patients with equitable, worldwide access to our transformative medicines

Is the Esprit R&D Oncology Medical Affairs Development Program for you?

All Esprit associates will be contributing to our mission: to revolutionize the experience and outcomes of people with cancer and their treatment teams.

The Oncology Medical Affairs organization was created in late 2018 and has undergone rapid expansion. There are now +300 staff across global, regional and local teams working across three core disease areas (Hematology, Women's Oncology, and Solid Tumors and Cell Therapy), with two marketed products and a dynamic, rapidly progressing pipeline of innovative assets following.

Beginning in either the Oncology Global or US Medical Affairs team you will have up to three challenging rotations, for durations that match the lifecycle of a project, and which could include a year's international experience.

You will have the opportunity to work in Medical Affairs in both the pre-launch and post launch settings in Global and Local (US) teams. This will provide you with a solid understanding of Medical Affairs strategy development and implementation, and the critical partnerships between Medical Affairs, Clinical Development and Commercial functions to deliver new treatments to patients. On completion of the 3-year program we aim to off-board you into an Oncology Medical Affairs leadership role that best suits business needs and your abilities.

This is a technical position, requiring an MD, preferably with specialization in Oncology. We are looking for an ambitious individual with dynamic and varied career experience either within a clinical, academic, pharmaceutical or biotech environment, who is eager to become an astounding leader. This position requires a deep understanding of patient & physician interactions, clinical decision-making & impact as well as the ability to engage in peer to peer discussions with medical professionals. You will have demonstrated excellent communication skills and a flexible mindset to forge your career in global matrix organization. You will endeavor to drive change, build relationships and develop others. A key focus will be to further enrich your impact through leadership, innovation and decision-making capabilities. Basic Qualifications, experience and skills we are looking for
  • You will be qualified with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or Medical Doctor (MD). You may have a dynamic and varied career experience (minimum of 3-7 years) either within a clinical, academic, pharmaceutical or biotech environment but are eager to become an astounding leader
  • Highly developed leadership, networking, communication and influencing skills to work effectively in a complex matrix environment
  • Passion for strategy development and delivery with strong skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously with an ability to prioritize appropriately
  • Has a global outlook with experience of working in a culturally diverse environment
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Thrives working in fast paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, resourceful and reliable
  • Experience of networking and building relationships to achieve credibility and influence


Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialist experience in areas such as Medical Affairs, Clinical Research or Oncology. Expertise in medical, academia, R&D or governance of promotional practices, a good understanding of clinical development processes and knowledge of the changing global healthcare environment in which GSK operates
  • Proven experience in Oncology is an advantage
  • Good understanding of Regulatory processes and reimbursement/market access challenges is an advantage
  • Evidence of being able to prioritize work in a fast-moving environment with a blend of science and commercial drivers
