DESCRIPTION
The Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute (BCHSI) and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF are looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Scholar with expertise in biomedical informatics and Electronic Health Record data extraction and analysis. This postdoctoral research scholar will oversee the application of modern methodologies to retrospective and prospective datasets from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in order to advance quality of care. With the help of expert clinical and data scientists from UCSF, the applicant will apply computational models to study condition progression and treatment response in a variety of clinical interventions performed by orthopaedic and sport surgeons. Candidates will be expected to perform innovative research using structured and unstructured Electronic Health Records.

A primary appointment with the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and an affiliation with BCHSI will be provided.

REQUIREMENTS
PhD in informatics, computer science, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related discipline with demonstrated experience/expertise in informatics, data science, and/or a medical, dental, nursing or pharmacy degree with demonstrated experience/training in informatics or data science
Strong background in clinical informatics and or network/mathematical modeling with a demonstrated interest in health research.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership qualities
Epic Clarity certified and/or experience working with Clarity
Familiarity with federal health IT policies (e.g., Meaningful Use, MACRA)

The Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute is a critical component of a global UCSF initiative in Precision Medicine, which seeks to aggregate and integrate vast, disparate datasets to advance understanding of biological processes, determine mechanisms of disease, and inform diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Since its formation in 2015, the Institute has established a cohort of 50 affiliated faculty who represent a diverse array of departments drawing from UCSF's four top-ranked professional schools (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy) and Graduate Division.
