As an essential member of our R&D department this position will participate in all aspects in our experimental design, data collection, and data analysis and contribute to our development of microbiome-based diagnostics and therapeutics. An ideal candidate will: ▪ Have extensive experience in advanced bioinformatics, ▪ Be able to work both independently and collaboratively to extract mechanistic information from microbiota high-throughput omics data, ▪ Be able to develop research lines in the areas of gut ecology concerning species interactions, gut metabolism and cross-feeding, and microbiota modulatory strategies in both health and clinical applications, ▪ Be expected to work closely with our bench scientists, technological professionals, AI scientists and clinicians. The role requires dedication, flexibility, excellent communication and organizational skills to successfully advance our research agenda and achieve our corporate mission. This position reports to the Director of Data Science.

 Construct microbiota species and strain resolution profiles using reference-based approach, including short and long reads • Work closely with bench scientists and data scientist to design research strategies and analyze microbiota omics data • Establish processes for integration of data with machine learning & AI modeling • Use machine learning effectively and develop new analysis strategies for large biological datasets (e.g. 16S, metagenomics) • Propose new biological hypotheses for microbial drivers of pathology and therapy, based on high throughput data, lit review, and in house experiments; develop and perform statistical tests of these hypotheses. • Work closely with bench scientists to design and analyze microbial function and phenotype experiments • Work with clinicians to help design and analyze clinical trials (particularly of microbial therapeutics) • Communicate analysis results with effective graphical output to a variety of audiences including clinicians, bench scientists and academic researchers. • Work effectively as part of a multifunctional team in support of a commercially viable therapeutics discovery platform

Requirements: • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology, bioengineering, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field. • Proven experiences and skills sets in computational analysis of omics datasets, particularly from 16sRNA and metagenomic sequencings • Extensive experience with two or more programming languages, especially R and Python, as well as their scientific libraries. • An understanding of common bioinformatics file formats (FASTQ, SAM/BAM, VCF, BED). • Be able to work independently and collaboratively • Passionate about science and be self-motivated • Take ownership of your assignment and proactively propose solutions to drive research • Work easily in a multicultural and multilingual environment. Additional Skills and Expertise (Desired but not necessary): • PhD in computational biology with strong expertise in microbiome/metabolome data analysis • Experience with Illumina NGS technologies and platforms. • Experience with PacBio, Oxford Nanopore, 10X, or Strand-seq technologies. • Experience in strain level analysis of individual bacteria or microbiome. • Experience with the analysis of metabolomics and proteomics datasets • Skilled with Linux/Unix and comfortable working in a command line environment
