Position Summary:
The Tobacco Treatment Specialist ("TTS") provides direct care to patients and education to patients and their families who currently use or have a history of tobacco use. The main goal of TTS is to increase the volume of high-risk oncology patients receiving tobacco/nicotine cessation services. TTS oversees the development of the clinical plan for tobacco dependent patients to improve integrative care and reduce/eliminate the tobacco burden and provide evidence-based tobacco treatment services. The TTS also collaborates with interdisciplinary team members for program referrals and care improvement.
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Provides direct cessation services for tobacco dependent inpatient and outpatient
  • Performs comprehensive tobacco/nicotine exposure and use assessment with the focus on current tobacco use and history
  • Coordinates tobacco treatment plan with appropriate team members for implementation
  • Obtains order from appropriate medical staff prior to initiating treatment plan
  • Assists the patient and family in acquiring skills needed to successfully utilize the tobacco treatment plan
  • Assists in coordinating care with attending medical team as needed.
  • Responds to inpatient and outpatient referrals
  • Performs follow-up visits as indicated
  • Assists in providing educational programs regarding the tobacco treatment services offered at the center to patients, their families and the community
  • Assist with patient evaluation/assessment of cessation services
  • Assist / participate in ongoing research protocols.


Qualifications
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's Degree- Field of Study: Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Nursing or other human services field.
  • Minimum 2-year experience required in counseling, substance addictions, and/or behavior change intervention in a health care setting.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
