Research Assistant II

SUMMARY
Works with principal investigators in the Department of Urology on research projects associated with urological malignancies. Works with other lab members on these projects including urological fellows, graduate students, postdoctoral fellow, and fellow research staff members. Should be able to perform and coordinate research projects with minimal guidance from faculty.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists principal investigator with scientific research projects.

Functions in a separate and independent manner in the design and initiation of research experiments.

Designs, develops or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.

Determines specific goals or objectives to be obtained, evaluates research data and develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.

Plans training and research work activity for assigned laboratory and research personnel.

Supervises the use of laboratory equipment and implements safety procedures.

Compiles, writes and submits project results to superiors.

Animal Work:

Will maintain mouse colonies including breeding and genotyping. Perform minor surgeries including direct orthotopic injections and necropsy. Will maintain patient-derived xenograft animal models.

In vitro:

Maintain human cell line in vitro cultures. Perform in vitro culture work with sterile techniques. Generate cell lines from human and mouse tissue.

Other duties as assigned.

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Education Preferred:

Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience Required:

Two years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with the preferred degree.

Experience Preferred:

Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Previous animal work.
