The Stupp Laboratory at the Simpson Querrey Institute at Northwestern University (Chicago campus) has an opening for a research position in the area of bioactive biomaterials in neural regeneration. The successful candidate can be appointed as a postdoctoral fellow, research associate, or research assistant professor depending on qualifications and experience. The main focus of the research is on neuro-active materials developed in the Stupp Lab based on peptide amphiphile nanostructures functionalized with different bioactive epitopes. The main targets at the moment are their use for regeneration and functional improvement in spinal cord and brain injury, Parkinson’s disease cell transplantation, and differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells into neural cells.  This multidisciplinary research includes in vitro and in vivo experiments to investigate how different types of bioactivity in these novel biomaterials impact regeneration as well as functional recovery. The biomaterials are prepared and characterized by chemists, materials scientists, and biomedical engineers who are part of the Stupp Lab.

Ideally the candidate has a background in neuroscience, regenerative medicine, and/or biomedical engineering, with experience in tissue culture, histology, molecular biology techniques and in vivo experiments.

Responsibilities:

Perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include cell culture, protein analysis, RNA isolation, PCR, Western Blot, flow cytometry, tissue processing and preparation, histology, immunofluorescence imaging, confocal microscopy, tissue isolation, dissection, cell isolation from tissues, and other molecular biology techniques. The candidate will also be responsible for the development of protocols for in vivo experiments.

Send your CV to Professor Samuel Stupp at s-stupp@northwestern.edu and Laura fields at l-fields@northwestern.edu.
