ROLE SUMMARY

The Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is committed to the search for new approaches to the treatment of metabolic dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases. Our goal is to build a research team of driven scientists focused on developing a deep mechanistic understanding of the metabolic pathways driving Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH), cachexia, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The in vivo pharmacology group is part of IMRU and focuses on utilizing scientific approaches to drive and coordinate in vivo efforts to test research hypotheses, identify and validate therapeutic targets, and deliver critical in vivo data packages. Our efforts span the early drug discovery process including pre-clinical in vivo model development, evaluation of disease pathology, pharmacological evaluation and development of in vivo imaging and continuous monitoring platforms aimed at translations to the clinic. We aim to recruit a scientifically and technically exceptional in vivo research scientist to play an important role in our team and contribute to our mission.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek an accomplished Scientist to join the in vivo pharmacology group within IMRU. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of scientists and assume a role in providing in vivo technical expertise across IMRU. He/she will be an in vivo point of contact with a focus on metabolic derangements and will lead in vivo studies, help other team members and provide surgical expertise in preclinical space. The successful candidate will work in a matrix environment and partner with biology teams to design in vivo studies and execute key experiments to ensure efficient decision-making and timely progression of drug development. He/she will also be a key contributor towards preclinical model development for cachexia and cardiometabolic disorders. Ideal applicant will possess excellent communication and organizational skills, critical problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to excellence.

Successful candidates will be expected to:
  • Design, plan and execute complex in vivo studies and act as point of contact for various platforms and surgical procedures.
  • Perform surgical procedures to wide array of in vivo work, including peripheral and CNS surgeries.
  • Closely work with teams, execute relevant studies and analyze data from in vivo efficacy, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic and biomarker studies.
  • Help develop in vivo model systems and keep abreast of advancements that can be applied to drug discovery and candidate characterization.
  • Communicate scientific progress to different teams and biology leads.
  • Help employ in vivo biology to explore novel hypotheses, evaluate candidate molecules and investigate mechanism of action.
  • Train and mentor in vivo biologists, maintain compliance and ethical standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS/MS with 5+ years of pre-clinical in vivo work is required preferably in industry settings.
  • Survival surgical experience is required.
  • Must be proficient in murine handling, dosing (PO, IV, IP, SC), survival sample collection, necropsy and tissue harvesting.
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo cachexia and/or heart failure models and their application in evaluating therapeutic effects is a plus.
