Director, Supply Chain (Supply Network Planning)

This role will be responsible for long term planning (0 to 5 years) for Sterile and Solid Dose

drug product and creation of the MPS for (2) Gilead internal sites and (25) external CMOs utilizing the Kinaxis Rapid Response Planning system. This position has 5 full time reports and 2+ contractors

Reporting Lines
  • Solid line to the Senior Director of Supply Chain who oversees short term and long term planning, and MPS creation/management.


Purpose of Role
  • Manage the long-term planning/execution (0 to 5 years) of manufacturing and packaging of finished goods globally utilizing internal and external finished good suppliers to ensure product availability for our patients.


Core Accountabilities
  • Ensuring product availability for our customers globally
  • Developing the Master Production Schedule for 25 external CMO's and 2 internal production sites
  • Management of a team of product supply network planners


Success Measured By
  • Managing/Relationship
    • Develop strong Supply Chain planning skills with your staff
    • Work closely with all other functions; Manufacturing/R&D/Regulatory Affairs/Quality/API group/Clinical and Legal
    • Become the SME for Rapid Response planning and reporting
  • Service:
    • Product availability; No stockouts
  • Production Plan Stability
  • Inventory Policy Adherence (Adherence to target, Obsolescent Inventory Value)
  • Driving efficiencies in drug product supply chain by identifying and eliminating waste in design and processes


Job Responsibilities:

This manager will lead 7 product supply network planners that will focus on developing Make and Transfer plans (midterm to long-term network MPS in monthly buckets (months 4 - 48) ) for the Gilead commercial supply network.
  • Leads Monthly global MPS Supply Review meeting (CMO's & Internal sites)
  • Coordinates and manages relationships with other departments (i.e. quality, mfg., AO, logistics, etc.) to resolve supply issues
  • Implementation of changes in supply chain (i.e. shelf-life changes)


  • Ensure that country supply chain requirements are supported by manufacturing and logistics providers (where applicable), specifically:
    • Own and manage the long term planning for our global products
    • Ensure proper communication throughout the mfg network including internal sites
    • Report monthly metrics and consistently build a plan to meet demand and NPI requirements


  • Establish the right organization structure, and lead the coaching of your people, specifically:
    • Direct a staff of 7 individuals, responsible for solid dose and sterile product lines
    • Drive an aligned focused culture through clear performance targets and regular one-on-ones.
    • Promote a clear engagement strategy through meetings and communications.
    • Implement talent development and staffing and succession routines.


Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
  • Extensive Project Management experience and expertise
  • Budget management and financial analysis skills.
  • People Management and Project Leadership experience
  • Provide strong and visible leadership. Own the S&OE process and drive for adherence to our MPS
  • Experience utilizing strategic thinking to shape the plan and gain buy-in from the GSC organization and other functions.
  • Enlist strong process and project management skills/ability to manage change.
  • Strong communication skills an ability to envision, energize, and enable both the GSC organization and other functions, and where necessary, lead performance management decisions.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions and siloes


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or related subject.
  • 10+ years' supply chain planning experience in a GMP regulated industry, preferably Pharmaceuticals
