Specific Responsibilities & Skills for the Position:
  • Responsible for identifying and investigating potential hazards associated with synthetic transformations and unit operations in the manufacturing of drug substances.
  • Conducts testing and experimentation (DSC, RC1, Phi-TEC I, off-gas analysis, etc.) and makes key observations during execution and data evaluation.
  • Guides project teams on necessary engineering controls and process modifications to scale safely.
  • Recommends alternatives, researches new methods and techniques, and proactively seeks out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems.
  • Familiar with kilo lab and pilot plant operations (hands-on experience preferred), and able to review master batch records and safety documents from a safety perspective.
  • Experienced with synthetic organic laboratory equipment and experimentation. Independently plans and executes experiments that support Process Safety activities and project goals.
  • Possesses knowledge of chemistry and chemical engineering principles. Applies thermochemical and engineering calculations to further the understanding of chemical systems and their associated hazards.
  • Familiar with laboratory and pilot plant occupational health and safety (chemical hygiene, emergency preparedness, etc.).
  • Uses excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.


Required Education and Experience:
  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and 11+ years of industry experience (Process Safety or Process Chemistry preferred) OR
  • MS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and 9+ years of industry experience (Process Safety or Process Chemistry preferred)
