Executive Director, Brand Strategy - Oncology Strategy & Operations

Global Commercial Product Strategy

Making an impact on a global scale

For over 30 years, Gilead has been a leading innovator in virology and we developed today's leading medicines for treating and preventing HIV and treating viral hepatitis. More recently Gilead has expanded its oncology portfolio and seeks to become a leader in this critical disease area. In this Executive Director Global Oncology Strategy & Operations role, you will lead a to drive the development of therapeutic area strategy, ex-US market build out plans, launch implementation in partnership with key markets, therapeutic area internal communications, and global oncology congress, and external stakeholder engagement plan. On oncology strategy and operations you will be providing insights and partnering with global commercial and clinical colleagues, as well as country GMs and business unit heads, to support world class launches of Gilead's oncology assets.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President, Global Commercial Product Strategy, Oncology, in this role you will:
  • Lead a team of global Marketers focused on outlining global oncology market insights, designing capabilities, and partnering with colleagues in the countries and regions to implement global strategic launch plans that meet local market, regulatory and payer needs
  • Outline market archetypes and in partnership with GMs/BU Heads design build out plans and operating models
  • Identify and engage with global oncology external stakeholders to support global education access and commercialization of Gilead's oncology portfolio; Lead global oncology conference strategy and opinion leader engagement
  • Lead oncology therapeutic area internal communications targeting global cross functional and local commercial colleagues to educate, inspire and support the success of the growing Gilead oncology portfolio in markets
  • Create strong and close working relationship with commercial leaders in key US and ex-US markets. Collect, codify and disseminate commercial tactic best practices across local markets, participate in working sessions and discussions, and lead regional forums to share practices and coordinate the execution of the global strategy
  • Thought partner with local counterparts, reviewing and challenging their country POAs and country-specific brand plans, embedding best practices, providing reactive feedback and input to ensure alignment to GCPS global strategy
  • Represent key ex-US market oncology needs within the Global Commercial Product Strategy team
  • Shape the vision culture and values of the Oncology Global Commercial Product Strategy team
  • In collaboration with cross functional partners, lead macro oncology strategy initiatives that encompass a mid-long term vision, near-mid term priorites and commercialization considerations
  • Your ultimate benchmark will be the successful execution of launch strategies across hematologic malignancies and solid tumors to maximizes the overall patient impact and business opportunity of the Gilead oncology portfolio


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

We're seeking a strategic, influential leader, experienced oncology Marketer, and experienced global manager with:

  • At least 16+ years with BS/BA or 14+ Years with MS/MA/MBA/PhD/PharmD with 12 years of relevant commercial experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry
  • Substantial oncology-specific experience and market knowledge required, in particular in solid tumor malignancies and hematologic malignancies
  • Significant commercialization experience, including in developing launch strategies, positioning, messaging and access strategies required
  • Ex-US local country experience, particularly in Europe, preferred; Strong understanding of ex-US health technology assessments and global product access issues required
  • Substantial experience in portfolio operations, communications and strategic planning, including developing positioning and messaging required
  • A proven track record in launch planning and executing new product launches, effectively communicates with and influences others and seen as a thought partner to senior leaders and cross functional colleagues in the organization and is able to use effective persuasion to gain acceptance of ideas
  • Significant previous front line manager experience and complex cross functional leadership required
  • Supports the development of their team members, including their knowledge, skills and abilities so they can fulfil job responsibilities more effectively and efficiently; Demonstrated track record of people development and mentoring others
  • An inspiring leader motivating individuals and teams toward higher levels of engagement and performance aligned with the organizations needs and vision
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive, develop and implement multi-dimensional business plans and operating models
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence and work successfully with varied audiences and executives
  • Strong analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and interpret complex issues and provide appropriate recommendations to senior management and across functional areas
