Director, Competitive Intelligence (CI) will lead CI activities across Oncology at Gilead. The role is focused on working with and collaborating with a broad cross-functional group of therapeutic area partners (including Global Commercial Product Strategy, US Commercial, Corporate Development, Corporate Strategy, Medical Affairs, Clinical, Research, Regulatory, and Legal) as well as Senior Leadership. The Director will be responsible for managing the Oncology CI Team as well as collecting, synthesizing and delivering key insights and implications to our business. These activities are structured around key strategic business questions that the Director will define in partnership with the Oncology CI Team and relevant cross-functional stakeholders. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for identifying CI gaps and new opportunities to add value to the business to expand CI's contributions and engagement Key areas of focus for this role include the strategies, programs, and capabilities of competitors in both research and promotional areas, as well as trends in the industry.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • Define Oncology CI priorities in collaboration with GCPS Oncology Leads, Global Analytics & Insights, Corporate Development and other key stakeholders to proactively address key business decisions
  • Manage the Oncology CI team, include day-to-day leadership, mentoring, coaching and career development
  • Provide context and objective analysis of competitive (commercial, clinical, and scientific) information to inform business decision-making and associated planning (ex: forecasts, market research, brand strategy)
  • Translate competitor/market information into implications and insights tailored to the Gilead oncology business
  • Map, assess and present competitive dynamics in new indications and/or therapeutic areas
  • Partner with and communicate to leadership regarding key competitive information and topics
  • Build and update content on competitor pipeline products, estimated potential launch timing, and competitor product profiles
  • Provide conference coverage and analysis of clinical data and commercial presence
  • Support stakeholders in development of function-specific deliverables (ex: forecasts, market assessments, brand plans, life cycle plans, diligence assessments )
  • Partner with third party agencies to support CI projects
  • Follow pre-defined standards to ensure legal and ethical approaches to CI, protecting business interests and confidentiality
  • Serve as a member of the CI Leadership Team
  • Lead key cross-TA projects and CI functional projects, as appropriate
  • Navigate ambiguity and act without having the total picture; can effectively pose questions in order to tease out information required for decision-making
  • Strong commitment to delivering high-quality deliverables and communication


Knowledge and Skills:
  • Previous team management experience
  • Experience within oncology and familiarity with current trends, issues, and approaches within the oncology space
  • Strong commitment to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a fast pace organization
  • Strong ability to influence without authority across key projects and stakeholders
  • Excellent relationship management skills including ability to adapt communication style, content, timing and tone to audience/stakeholder needs
  • Ability to interpret and synthesize key data and identify broader implications for internal programs and / or specific opportunities
  • Experience with researching, developing, and delivering CI assessments that include basic information as well as strategic insights
  • Strong oral and written communication, including history of effective written communication (including both PowerPoint and Word/email)
  • Experience in interacting with multidisciplinary research or development teams
  • Proven ability to present at and facilitate small- and large-group meetings (with peers as well as senior leaders) to achieve pre-defined objectives
  • Knowledge regarding the drug development and commercialization process
  • Experience in use of online data sources and scientific/market databases (e.g., Pubmed, clinicaltrials.gov, TrialTrove, Evaluate Pharma, etc.)
  • Ability to be proactive and operate with incomplete information
  • Excellent task and time management skills (specifically project planning, prioritization, objective setting, meeting management and plan execution) are required
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and work successfully with varied audiences and executives
  • Ability to embrace Gilead's patient-centric values, including highest ethical and compliance standards


Education and Experience:
  • BA/BS degree required. Masters, PhD or equivalent graduate degree; life science discipline a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in CI, consulting/financial or commercial experience
