Position Summary
The candidate will join a highly competitive research lab to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying transcriptional control and cell signaling during the course of cancer initiation and progression using "cutting-edge" and unbiased in vitro biological approaches and genetically-engineered mouse models. The successful candidate should be highly self-motivated, strong desire to learn, and have great compassion and interest with medical and biological research and excellent communication skills. Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate I will perform a variety of routine and sophisticated in vitro and in vivo experiments. The candidate should have abilities to work with stress and meeting for deadlines. In addition, she/he should be able to plan experimental approaches to a research project with consulting with the Principal Investigator; making necessary technical trouble-shooting, reads scientific abstracts and articles; contribute original ideas to the laboratory research; standardize new techniques and train staff on these techniques; prepare written reports of laboratory experimental methods
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Utilizing laboratory equipment and established protocols, performs a variety of research experiments. Records and validates results for accuracy and completeness.
  • May modify protocols
  • Write standard operating procedures and reports.
  • Maintains records of work performed including results and methodology; utilizing records may calculate, graph and compile data.
  • Develops techniques and expertise in one or more areas relevant to laboratory research project.
  • Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of materials.
  • Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality. Expresses ideas clearly and constructively.
  • Looks for opportunities to improve performance; manages time, work, and relationships effectively and efficiently.
  • Developing abilities to work independently and with pressure.
  • Works proactively and collaboratively with others to streamline work and achieve mutual goals.


Qualifications
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences
  • 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
