Organization Type

The successful applicant will join the Translational Modeling and Simulation team within Pfizer's Medicine Design organization which applies state-of-the-art modeling and simulation methodologies to preclinical programs to enable key drug discovery decisions from early discovery stages through early -clinical studies. As a member of Cambridge (US)-based multidisciplinary project teams, the candidate will develop and implement quantitative, mechanism-based mathematical models which impact decisions regarding molecular target and interventional modality evaluation, biomarker characterization, chemical optimization and candidate selection, preclinical-clinical translation strategies and early clinical trial design.

  • As a member preclinical multidisciplinary project teams, develop and implement translational pharmacology and safety strategies in support of the design, characterization and nomination of molecules for clinical development
  • Influence the design and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo ADME, pharmacology and safety studies underwriting drug design and clinical candidate identification
  • Hands-on development and implementation of robust, fit-for-purpose mathematical models (e.g. PBPK, PKPD, QSP) to support study design, data analysis and decision making.
  • Partner with members of early clinical development teams to ensure end-to-end alignment with translational plans, knowledge transfer into early clinical development, and extract learnings from clinical experience.
  • Partner with other members of Translational Modeling and Simulation to advance the discipline of quantitative translational pharmacology
  • Partner with members of Pharmacokinetics, Dynamics and Metabolism to advance the discipline of small-molecule ADME sciences
  • Remain abreast of emerging literature in quantitative translational sciences and present scientific results both internally and externally through conference presentations and publications

  • Ph.D. or Masters degree in pharmacometrics, pharmaceutical sciences, engineering, applied mathematics, systems pharmacology, physics or similar disciplines where modeling and simulation is emphasized.
  • 3 years with a Phd or 8 years with a Masters degree of relevant experience in practical applications of modeling and simulation (PBPK, PKPD, QSP) in pharmaceutical research and development
  • Subject matter expertise in the mechanisms of drug disposition, pharmacology and toxicology of small molecule therapeutics.
  • Strong technical communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Familiarity with the phases of drug discovery and development, with emphasis on lead optimization, clinical candidate identification/characterization, and early clinical development

  • Experience in the application of translational modeling and simulation to areas of inflammation, immunology, cardiovascular, metabolic diseases, rare disease or oncology is desirable, though not required.
