Role Summary:

To guide oncology discovery campaigns at Pfizer, the newly formed Tumor Evolution (TE) group located in La Jolla will develop cutting-edge biological tools, such as cell engineering, phenotypic screens, genome-wide genetic screens, functional genomics, and proteomics, to quantify global cellular perturbations induced by oncogenic changes and by small molecules aimed at counteracting such changes. Team members will apply multiple biology-based disciplines to identify novel oncology targets and deepen our understanding of tumor heterogeneity, protein homeostasis and drug resistance.

We are seeking an experienced cell and molecular biologist to contribute to the success of the TE group within the Tumor Biology (TB) Department. The candidate should have expertise in cellular engineering technologies, target identification and validation in a drug discovery context. This is an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge methods and contribute to the target portfolios of the Oncology Research Unit (ORU) of one of the world's leading developers of novel therapeutics.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Develop tool assets for advancing group projects including cell models of disease, CRISPR technologies, characterization of small molecule inhibitors, biomarkers and cell signaling.
  • Stay current with relevant biological technologies including those relating to molecular and cell biology, and biochemistry
  • Lead from the bench as an individual contributor
  • Work with and manage relationships with external contract providers
  • Work collaboratively within the Tumor Biology department and across the ORU
  • Contribute to building a culture that embraces continuous learning and improvement
  • Help to establish the Tumor Evolution group as an integral component of world-wide research development

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors with 12 + years of experience, Masters with 7 years experience, or PhD
  • Track record of successful contribution to research projects leading to advancement of projects.
  • Track record of innovative and impactful research including peer-reviewed publications, preferably with relevant methodologies.
  • Significant experience with an array of molecular and cell biology methods, including PCR and NGS-based expression analysis, cell-based assays, expertise in cell culture, lentiviral generation and cell line generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, propose develop and conduct new experimental approaches.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with E3 ubiquitin ligases, dTAG and degrader technologies is a plus.
  • Expertise in breast and prostate disease models or transcription factors is desired.
  • Expertise with bioinformatics approaches and data visualization of differential gene expression, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, proteomics and pathway analysis are desired.
  • Industry experience is a plus
