Senior Associate Scientist

ROLE SUMMARY

This is a laboratory-based position within the Vaccine Research and Development - Formulation Development organization. The primary responsibility is to s upport formulation and process development of novel adjuvant formulations which may consist of liposomal, nanoparticle or other novel systems.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Execute formulation studies to support the development of novel adjuvants formulations.
• With guidance, prepare adjuvant and product formulations for early research animal studies. The candidate is expected to be able to independently calculate how to achieve the targeted formulation with basic instructions to deliver targeted formulations in a consistent, timely manner.
• Document experiments, analyze data, provide interpretation and conclusions obtained from formulation development experiments contemporaneously in an electronic notebook.
• Contribute to drafting formulation protocols, dose formulation instructions and technical reports.
• Support formulation characterization using techniques such as DSC, osmolality, Karl Fischer, particle sizing, and zeta potential.
• The individual is expected to contribute and participate in general laboratory maintenance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• BS in Pharmaceutics, Biochemistry, Life Sciences or related discipline plus 2 or more years of related work experience, or MS in related discipline.
• Relevant experience in pharmaceutical formulation and process development is a must.
• Experience in formulation development for vaccines, other biologics and adjuvants is preferable.
• Experience in nanoparticle and liposome formulations is a plus.
• Experience with utilizing various biophysical formulation characterization techniques such as DSC, Zeta Potential, and particle sizing techniques is desired.
• Good interpersonal, organizational and documentation skills.Strong communication skills and ability to work across a matrix team.
• Computer proficiency.
