Metabolic, Epigenetic and Immune regulation of neutrophil turnover and extracellular traps (NETs) in acute and chronic inflammatory diseases

 Multiple postdoctoral position available in the laboratory of Dr. Jyotika Sharma at MD Anderson Cancer Center to participate in NIH-funded research projects focusing on neutrophil functions in acute and chronic disease conditions. Well-defined projects will involve studies on the mechanisms of neutrophil turnover (granulopoiesis, cell death, efferocytosis); metabolic and  epigenetic regulation of neutrophil extracellular trap formation and their modulation using small molecule inhibitors. We are using in-vitro and in-vivo approaches with murine models and human samples for investigating these functions in adult and neonatal sepsis, primary and secondary pneumonia, chronic granulomatous diseases (CGD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), breast cancer and metabolic diseases. These highly translational studies leverage samples from well-defined cohorts of human patients available through our collaborations with investigators at NIH/NIAID and Texas Medical Center, Houston. Motivated candidates with PhD or MD/PhD in cellular and molecular immunology, biochemistry, genomics/epigenomics or molecular biology using rodent models of diseases are encouraged to apply. Hands-on experience directly relevant to individual projects (flow cytometry, imaging, functional genomics, bioinformatics and metabolic studies in cells of immune system) is strongly preferred. Demonstrated productivity in publication record is required.
