Postdoctoral Associate Position in the Sandoz Lab Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University Ithaca, NY
The Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an outstanding individual to join the Sandoz Lab. Research in the Sandoz Lab will probe the structural and physiological determinants of quiescence in the Gram-negative bacterium, Coxiella burnetii. C. burnetii is an unusually hardy pathogen that survives in the environment for years. Newfound interactions within the C. burnetii cell envelope point towards a new mechanism that may underpin this spore-like stability (Sandoz et al. Nature Microbiology, forthcoming).
The successful applicant will investigate how the modification of cell envelope architecture and outer membrane tethering by Coxiella peptidoglycan-modifying enzymes contributes to the stability and survival of this pathogen. Successful candidates must have a PhD, experience in bacterial genetics, biochemistry, cellular or molecular biology, cell culture, structural biology, and/or LC-MS/MS. Individuals who bring additional perspectives and expertise are also encouraged to apply. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to work in a team are essential for participating in our multi-disciplinary research. Creativity, enthusiasm, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic are required. This is a one-year, full-time appointment with a potential for extension contingent on funding and successful performance.
To apply, visit https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17298 to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and a research statement. If you have any questions regarding this posting, please contact Dr. Kelsi Sandoz (kms476@cornell.edu).
