Postdoctoral Position in small molecule mass spectrometry, lipidomics, and cellular lipid signaling.

A postdoctoral research fellow position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Charles Chalfant in the Department of Cell Biology, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, FL. The overarching goal of the Chalfant laboratory is to understand how cellular lipid signaling regulates specific fundamental mechanisms linked to diseases and disease states such as cancer, sepsis, inadequate wound healing, and chronic inflammation.  The research programs of the Chalfant lab are funded by the National Institutes of Health (R01GM137578; R01AI139072) and the Veterans Administration (BX001792) and the salary for the postdoc position will be based on NIH pay scales.

A personalized career development and mentoring plan will be jointly prepared by the PI and the postdoctoral fellow.

Research Environment: The PI has individual and shared lab space that provides an abundance of genetic, biochemical, and molecular tools and other scientific resources for innovation, and opportunities for collaboration. Our proximity to USF-Health (College of Medicine) and the Moffitt Cancer Center, and our multi-institutional Lipid and RNA Interest Group meetings, provide an intellectually stimulating environment. The Chalfant laboratory has one of the strongest capabilities in the US for lipid mass spectrometric analyses. Both AB SCIEX 5500 and 5600+ systems are available for daily and dedicated use by the postdoctoral trainee to develop and enhance the analysis of bioactive lipids (e.g., eicosanoids, sphingolipids) with tremendous opportunities for collaborations in the national and international level.
