Postdoctoral Fellow Position to Study Transcriptional Regulation of Liver Development and Function at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
A postdoctoral research position is available in the Cirillo lab at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee for a highly motivated, ambitious individual interested in research that investigates how chromatin structure directs transcriptional regulation of liver development and metabolism. The Cirillo lab studies the diverse chromatin binding and remodeling abilities of pioneer DNA-binding factors, which are the first to engage compacted, transcriptionally silent genes during organ development. Current projects in the lab use human stem cell-based hepatocyte differentiation models to investigate the role of one of these factors, FoxO1, in the chromatin opening events required for liver specification in the embryo and its recruitment of additional chromatin regulators required to activate the expression of metabolic genes that inform liver function. Knowledge gained from the proposed work will provide new mechanistic insights for tackling human liver disease and cancer and reveal prospective targets for novel, epigenetic-based approaches to treat pervasive human metabolic disorders.
Candidates should have a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology or a related field. Successful applicants will have extensive knowledge of cell and molecular biology techniques required for analysis of DNA, RNA, and protein in tissues and cultured cells. Experience with genome-wide analysis of transcriptional regulation (RNA- and ChIP-seq) and the analysis of large datasets is desirable. Applicants with experience in stem cell biology, including the culture and differentiation of human embryonic and induced pluripotent cells are strongly encouraged to apply. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to think and work independently are essential. Opportunities are available for presentations at national and international scientific conferences and for applying for independent funding.
To apply, interested individuals should email a CV, a description of research interests, and the names and contact information for three references to Dr. Lisa Cirillo at firstname.lastname@example.org
