at the Institute of Biological Sciences, beginning 01.04.2022 (subject to budget considerations).

The professorship will be fully responsible for research and teaching in the field of biochemistry at the Institute of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNF). We are seeking an internationally visible biochemist with research experience in membrane-bound or soluble protein complexes. Research should be allocated within the field of bioenergetics, ion homeostasis or redox regulation in microorganisms or plants. With this research focus the Department of Biochemistry will complement the current research profile of the Institute of Biological Sciences, which focusses on the molecular physiology of biotechnological and environmentally relevant organisms. This future-oriented research will enable cooperation with other Departments of the Institute regarding adaptations of organisms under changing environmental conditions, which play an important role at the land/water interface and are investigated on different levels in Rostock. Further interactions with the Institute of Chemistry in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Interdisciplinary Faculty with the Departments Maritime Systems and Life, Light and Matter as well as with the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW) are expected from the appointee.

The successful applicant will teach classes in biochemistry in the BSc, MSc and teacher training study programs at the Institute of Biological Sciences, with a required contribution of 8 h per week per semester. All courses will be taught in German. However, non-native speakers may initially lecture in English for a maximum of two years. During this period the successful candidate is expected to acquire sufficient language skills to fulfill his/her teaching duties in German.
