Sr. Manufacturing Automation Engineer I

Gilead Sciences is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Manufacturing Engineer to support our Commercial Manufacturing site in San Dimas, California. The Manufacturing Automation Engineering role will support utilities, manufacturing, and instrumentation so the plant can continue to reliably produce therapeutic products.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Complies with all safety regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Plans tracks and executes projects for the in the design, modifications, and maintenance of Utility System, HVAC Systems, and Facilities.
  • Provides engineering expertise and guidance in planning and financial justification, start-up activities, scale-up processes, implementation, process improvements, and validation.
  • Performs general evaluation studies of Utility System and HVAC Systems.
  • Leads trouble shooting efforts on Utility System and HVAC Systems.
  • Prepares required engineering and manufacturing documentation.
  • Provides accurate budget estimates for capital equipment and projects.
  • Independently, works on the resolution of engineering issues of a routine nature.
  • Manages assigned projects through completion with limited direct supervision.


Knowledge & Skills
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of process engineering systems, methods and procedures.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of automated process control systems, GMP Utility Systems (Water for Injection (WFI), Clean/Pure Steam, Clean Dry Air, etc) and HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Develops solutions to routine problems.
  • Utilizes established precedents and policies.


Required Education & Experience
  • A Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience, OR a Master's Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Has previous experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry.
  • Has previous experience in engineering in highly regulated manufacturing environments.
