The Department of Pathobiological Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University and A&M College (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. This position involves research 75% and teaching 25%. The candidate is expected to establish an extramurally funded research program in infectious disease, including but not limited to, innate and adaptive immune responses to bacterial, fungal, parasitic, or viral infections. Preference will be given to candidates who are conducting research on infectious agents that affect the lung and these candidates will be eligible to receive funding from the NIH-funded COBRE grant entitled “Center for Lung Biology and Disease”.

The position provides an attractive salary, generous start-up package, laboratory space, and excellent opportunities for collaboration with basic and translational investigators at LSU and the LSU Center for Computation & Technology (CCT), as well as those at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA, the Tulane National Primate Research Center in Covington, LA and the LSU Health Science Centers at New Orleans and Shreveport, respectively. The Department offers outstanding technical resources in many areas with state-of-the-art core facilities, including flow cytometry, imaging, genomics, pathology and BSL-3 facilities.

The successful candidate is expected to direct an active extramural funded research program and participate in the teaching activities of the veterinary and graduate student curricula. Job Responsibilities:

Performs research in the immunopathogenesis of infectious diseases
Maintains a competitive laboratory funded by federal and other sources and publishes research results in highly reputable journals
Participates in other educational aspects of the Department.

Teaches in the Veterinary  Professional curriculum and the Graduate curriculum of the Department. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph. D. or D.V.M or M.D or equivalent with several years of postdoctoral experience 

Specific Experience in a history of high-impact publications in the immunopathogenesis of infectious diseases. 

Preferred Qualifications:

D.V.M or M.D  with 3 years of postdoctoral experience is preferred

Specific Experience in the Use of state-of-the art bioinformatics is a plus. 

Job Competencies:

Proficient in Microbiology-host-pathogen interactions

Proficient in Immunology of infectious disease pathogens
