Postdoc Position in Computational Biology at Influenza Systems Biology Lab, University of Missouri-Columbia
The Wan lab at the University of Missouri (MU) Bond Life Sciences Center is seeking a Postdoc Research Associate in the area of Comptational Biology at the Influenza Systems Biology Laboratory, which is affiliated across Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering, Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, and MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics at University of Missouri (MU). The lab has accesses to the regional BSL3 and ABSL-3 biocontainment laboratory at the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Laboratory.
The Wan lab research focuses on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, especially influenza viruses, by developing and applying integrated, multi-scale, and evidence-based approaches that combining laboratory, clinical and computational methods.
The responsibilities of the position are 1) to develop and apply computational algorithms and tools to predict phenotypes (e.g. antigenicity, replication ability, receptor binding preference, transmission risks, pathogenesis risks, and vaccine responses) of influenza viruses and other emerging pathogens (e.g. SARS-CoV-2) using omics data and laboratory generated phenotypic data, 2) to design novel and broadly protective influenza vaccine candidates, 3) to understand the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions using systems approaches, and/or 4) to study evolutionary pathways of influenza viruses and other emerging pathogens (e.g. SARS-CoV-2).
