The lab has accesses to the regional BSL3 and ABSL-3 biocontainment laboratory at the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Laboratory.

The Wan lab research focuses on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, especially influenza viruses, by developing and applying integrated, multi-scale, and evidence-based approaches that combining laboratory, clinical and computational methods.

The responsibilities of the position are 1) to develop and apply computational algorithms and tools to predict phenotypes (e.g. antigenicity, replication ability, receptor binding preference, transmission risks, pathogenesis risks, and vaccine responses) of influenza viruses and other emerging pathogens (e.g. SARS-CoV-2) using omics data and laboratory generated phenotypic data, 2) to design novel and broadly protective influenza vaccine candidates, 3) to understand the molecular mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions using systems approaches, and/or 4) to study evolutionary pathways of influenza viruses and other emerging pathogens (e.g. SARS-CoV-2).
