JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Training program development, planning, and oversight (CPRIT, NCI R25E, donor sponsored, etc.)
  • Oversee and manage staff with marketing, program promotion & recruitment, nationally, regionally, and locally
    • With CPRIT partners, including MD Anderson mentors, departments, faculty, advisory committee
    • For NCI R25E summer program
    • Help review and improve strategy for promotion & recruitment for all CPRTP training & education opportunities
    • Manage communications about programs and recruitment
  • In collaboration with committee members, review and select applicants
    • For long-term fellowships, including identification and invitation of expert scientist reviewers for reviews of finalist research and career development proposals
    • For short-term NCI R25E 2-level review of fellowships, including invitation of non-advisory committee MD Anderson faculty
  • Conduct trainee orientation on-boarding, progress reviews, and exit process, including job hunting in cancer prevention & control (non-nuts & bolts)
  • Mentor and manage communication with trainees and mentors, both routine and for specific interventions
  • Organize and manage communication and interactions with advisory committee and other leadership, including for regular advisory committee meetings
  • Oversee in collaboration with staff long-term tracking and follow-up of alumni
  • Prepare and submit RPPRs, grant applications, abstracts, manuscripts, other reports, presentations, etc.
  • Using expertise in behavioral science/psychology, education and curriculum development, adult learning methods, or other relevant discipline, develop and implement novel and effective training methods and conduct evaluation of training programs and activities, including assessment of educational interventions, instrument development, data collection strategies, etc.


Educational curriculum development and implementation in cancer prevention
  • Using expertise in behavioral science/psychology, education, curriculum development, and adult learning methods, help develop and evaluate innovative training methods for preparing trainees for research careers in cancer prevention and control; prepare abstracts, manuscripts, reports, and presentations for dissemination; when appropriate, help prepare IRB protocols and waiver requests for submission and approval.
  • Oversee in collaboration with staff with coordinate semester GSBS courses, including updating course description, cross-listing courses at UTHealth, updating syllabi, inviting faculty speakers, and organizing in-class professional development activities (e.g., TEDtalk training, CP research proposal development), and course evaluation
  • Oversee and organize and conduct trainee professional development activities (e.g., elevator speech and TEDtalk training, rehearsals for conference research presentations and job talks, grant writing/grantsmanship, job applications, networking, & interviewing, Trainee Forum, CPRTP summer exposition, annual Sept Postdoc Appreciation activities; NCI R25E summer programming - orientation, CP Career Conversations, etc.), including evaluation
  • Oversee and coordinate regular multidisciplinary research sharing & practice activities for CP trainees
  • Oversee staff coordination of promotion, nominations, review/selection and help MC annual Divisional Cancer Prevention Trainee & Mentor Awards ceremony and reception
  • Oversee staff tracking and help organize required training activities for trainees and others, including mandatory RCR training opportunities for trainees
  • Participate in national and international discussions about cancer prevention research training and educational methods and interventions for adapting for the CPRTP, collaborating, and disseminating methods for CPRTP activities


Strategic planning and Administrative leadership
  • Participate in strategic planning for CPRTP regarding training program, financial sustainability, grant funding, educational curriculum development in cancer prevention and control, professional development activities
  • Develops and implements strategies for funding, enhancing internal and external collaboration approaches.
  • Using expertise in behavioral science/psychology, education and curriculum development, adult learning methods, or other relevant discipline, help design, evaluate, and disseminate innovative training & educational activities in cancer prevention, in biomedical research
  • Collaborate with partners on development of cancer prevention and control curricula & research training elsewhere
  • Develops and coordinates educational and scientific activities which foster new agreements and opportunities, enhancing existing and new relationships with external stakeholders
  • Represent CPRTP as collaborator in variety of settings including on committees (institutional and otherwise), at professional membership societies, and EW, to increase visibility and impact of CPRTP
  • Identifies risks, facilitates mitigation strategies, flagging issues for needed adjustments
  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate staff


Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:
Required: Doctoral degree in behavioral science/psychology, health education, health promotion sciences, population sciences, or related.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five years experience in cancer prevention or population sciences or related discipline including control/research, training and curriculum development, grant writing and development, and peer-reviewed publishing experience, to include three years in a managerial/supervisory role. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.
