Seeking to accelerate our vision to be the exemplar catalyst for innovation and advancement of the profession of public health, locally and globally, the University of South Florida College of Public Health invites applications for a faculty position of Associate Professor with tenure to join our internationally recognized global infectious diseases research team.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic faculty actively engaged in shaping the future of public health through innovative curricula, transformational research, and community partnerships designed to create a positive collective impact on health. We seek an individual with a doctoral degree and current external research funding in the area of global emerging infectious diseases, molecular parasitology, or disease ecology that will support graduate and post-doctoral training in the area of global and planetary health.  In addition, we seek a candidate with a willingness to take a leadership role in shaping and guiding the future of the College’s Center for Global Health Infectious Diseases Research and to work closely with the USF Genomics Program to support a broad-based interdisciplinary public health research program.

Part of USF Health, the USF College of Public Health was founded in 1984 as the first college of public health in Florida and consists of a multidisciplinary faculty of 84 scholars, professionals, and leaders serving the educational needs of more than 4,500 students in bachelors, master’s and doctoral degree programs. COPH is organized into four Strategic Areas: Global and Planetary Health; Interdisciplinary Science and Practice; Policy, Practice, and Leadership; and Population Health Science. Our faculty select their strategic area of interest and are encouraged to engage in transdisciplinary research and teaching with faculty from across the college. Minimum qualifications:  Doctoral degree in science, medicine, public health, or related field; five years of continuous and productive accomplishment as an Assistant Professor or equivalent at a University or research institution; a record of excellence in independent research and scholarship in the areas of emerging infectious diseases, molecular parasitology or disease ecology, supported by current competitive external funding and substantial and sustained publications; a record of excellence in teaching, including a clearly defined teaching philosophy, participation on thesis and/or dissertation committees and successful direction of the work of master’s and doctoral candidates;  a record of substantial contribution of service to the University, profession, and community; and, demonstrated ability to fulfill the expectation of collegiality and participation as a citizen of the University.

Preferred qualifications: An established record in doctoral and post-doctoral level training; teaching experience at the graduate level in one or more of the areas of emerging infectious/communicable disease, molecular parasitology, or disease ecology; a vision of one’s role in the college’s future; and, a demonstrated ability to work within a diverse and interdisciplinary environment.
