Chief Operating Officer, Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute/Associate Dean, Translational Research and Clinical Sciences

The Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) in conjunction with Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is seeking applicants for a Chief Operating Officer/Associate Dean to advance the research vision and objectives of the school and institute.

The COO/Associate Dean will represent the EAD of Research Affairs at an executive level within the university, CTSI, the school’s healthcare affiliates, and with public and private donors.  Programs within the Research Affairs office include a variety of high-risk, milestone-driven projects that pursue a wide range of basic, translational, clinical and implementation research, as well as health delivery and novel therapeutics development. The person recruited for this position will have input into which initiatives and what approaches are prioritized. This individual will also assist with transitioning promising therapies into initial studies in patients, work closely with the extramural research community, and build partnerships with nonprofit research organizations and companies.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • an extensive experience in senior-level research, moving research from the basic discoveries into pre-clinical development, clinical trials or demonstration of public health benefit,
  • a demonstrated track record of effectively handling key organizational matters while balancing multiple complex priorities, all while meeting deadlines and managing critical issues in a dynamic environment
  • the ability to interact and influence at the most senior levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across functions, levels, and departments towards shared objectives,
  • ability to manage financial and human resources and lead a research program involving extensive internal and external collaboration,
  • demonstrated ability to develop successful and effective marketing and communication strategies, and serve as a spokesperson,
  • proven record of innovative and independent problem-solving skills, combined with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, application of sound judgment; poise under pressure and ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities, and
  • passion about science and biomedical research, keeping abreast of new developments and requirements.

Master’s degree required, doctorate or terminal degree preferred. Master’s degree finalists will be eligible for an Academic Specialist appointment type. Doctorate degree finalists will be eligible for a faculty appointment type.
