Boston University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (subject to budgetary approval) in biological design, which we define as the approach of building new biological systems ranging from proteins to organs as a means to understand fundamental biological principles. Example areas of interest include but are not limited to systems and synthetic biology, chemical biology, physics of biology, microbiome, cell and developmental biology, and regenerative medicine.

This is a collaborative, interdisciplinary search involving faculty from the College of Arts & Sciences and College of Engineering. The new hire will join and collaborate with investigators in BU’s Biological Design Center and will be appointed to a tenure-track position in one of the participating departments based on background and interests.

The successful candidate will join a strong and growing interdisciplinary research center, where we expect excellence in teaching and in research, and are committed to building a culturally, racially, and ethnically diverse scholarly community. The candidate will be offered newly renovated laboratory facilities, a competitive salary and start-up package. Candidates must hold a PhD in an appropriate field, have postdoctoral experience and show potential for leading an independent and vibrant research program. Responsibilities also include teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Review of applications will begin 1 November 2020. Please use AcademicJobsOnline (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17206) to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research, teaching, and diversity interests, and three representative reprints, and arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted through the same website. In the diversity statement, applicants should provide evidence of a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusive excellence, and evidence of participation in the creation of inclusive environments in their department/workplace. Inquiries can be addressed to Prof. Chris Chen (chencs@bu.edu), Chair, Biological Design Search Committee.

Please visit the following websites for additional information about the Biological Design Center (http://sites.bu.edu/bubdc/), and BU’s Colleges of Arts and Sciences (https://www.bu.edu/cas/) and Engineering (http://www.bu.edu/eng/).
