Research Scientist - Sequencing Core - Research Biology

We are seeking an experienced, collaborative and motivated individual to lead our new Sequencing Core in Research Biology. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team to establish the sequencing capabilities and fulfil essential sequencing needs for Gilead Research. An ideal candidate will have in-depth understanding and hands-on experiences in genomics and sequencing technologies, with strong leadership and communication skills. This individual will lead a small group to establish sequencing operations and drive continuous improvements in new technologies and cross functional collaborations.

Essential functions:

• Develop and implement next generation sequencing capabilities using Illumina platforms
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive sequencing technology applications in Research
• Create and implement NGS workflow and best practices for the core and internal customers
• Define infrastructure needs and requirements and collaborate with IT, informatics and bioinformatics colleagues on sample tracking, workflow, data processing and management
• Manage the sequencing lab and coordinate with lab manager and facility in setting up the lab

• Maintain, develop and manage relationships with external vendors

• Recruit, manage and develop team members and maintain a collaborative and productive team culture

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

• Ph.D. Molecular Biology, Genomics, Genetics or a related field
• Sequencing core experience in a medium to large organization
• Strong scientific background and in-depth understanding of genomics and cutting-edge sequencing technologies
• Hands-on experience in developing, implementing and managing NGS workflows and sequencing technologies
• Able to work independently and to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced working environment.
• Strong management and communication skills and track records of operational excellence

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Genetics or a related field with 0-3 years of experience
• 3 years of sequencing core experience in a medium to large organization is highly preferred
• Experience in genomics and sequencing technologies
• Direct experience in developing, implementing and managing NGS workflows and sequencing technologies
