SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II position must be able to provide technical and coordination skills to carry out various research projects, coordinate and support procedures, and perform technical laboratory duties in accordance with general and/or specific plans.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Laboratory Research/Projects:Assists with research projects; performs supervised research; plans, designs and implements research projects; prepares and maintains culture media, reagents, and grows tissue culturing cells; performs various assays; sterilizes equipment; interprets experimental test data; performs tissue processing including samples for single cell analyses and blood samples; cuts, stains and mounts specimens; helps maintain laboratory in a clean, orderly and safe condition.

Coordinate Laboratory: Sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus; sets-up and maintains incubators and tissue culture hoods, maintains equipment, centrifuges, incubators, homogenizers, and various microscopes. Assists maintaining lab members' training records, lab inspection and placing orders for the laboratory.

Other duties as assigned: Compiles processes and analyzes data; records research procedures and results; files and maintains records; codes data for input for electronic data processing; inputs and retrieves data using computers. Help improve protocols and novel technologies under development.

Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences. Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
