KEY FUNCTIONS
Conducts research experiments and projects
Conducts experiments and research projects in scientific fields under the supervision of faculty, educational or classified research staff.
Operates laboratory apparatus and equipment
Utilizes laboratory equipment to carry out experiments.
Data gathering and analysis
Record and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested. Maintain and update records of cell lines, analytical and tissue samples generated in the laboratory, received from other laboratories.
In vitro laboratory research
Perform all required laboratory tasks and experiments that include cell biological experiments like maintenance of cell lines, performing cell proliferation, invasion, cell death & apoptosis assays; Biochemical and molecular experiments like DNA/RNA, metabolite & protein isolation, cloning, western blot analysis, qRT-PCR, immunoprecipitations, & flow cytometry; Immunochemical analysis of cells and tissues using confocal microscopy and bright-field microscopy.
Sample preparations for high throughput screens
Prepare of large number of samples with constant pipeting, up to 100 samples per day, and submit samples for performing high-throughput screens.
Learn and operate analytical instruments and software
Learn and work with routine analytical software, and generate graphs and figures of data. Lear and operate specialized experiments like Seahorse Extracellular Flux analysis, and multicolor flow cytometry.
Assigned laboratory duties
Operate of laboratory apparatus and equipment. Prepare stock solutions and buffers as part of rotation duties of lab personnel. Maintain laboratory supplies and order necessary reagents for future experiments in a timely manner.
In vivo animal research
Perform in vivo experiments which include implantation of cell lines and patient-derived tumors; Perform daily drug treatments, tumor measurements, tissue harvests and downstrem processing of harvested samples for generating tissues, protein lysates, DNA/RNA
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred: Master's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
Preferred: Animal handling experience is a plus.
