An NIH-funded Postdoctoral Research position to investigate the mechanisms by which herpes simplex virus particles are assembled then sorted into neuron axons and transported by kinesin microtubule motors. The candidate will work with two senior scientists: an Assistant Professor and a senior Research Associate in Dr. David Johnson’s laboratory in the Dept. of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology at Oregon Health & Science University. Projects include: 1) mechanisms of virus assembly in neuron cell bodies, 2) sorting of virus particles into neuronal axons, and 3) efforts to identify viral proteins that tether HSV particles onto kinesin motors within axons.

Applicants require a PhD and need to have a broad, solid understanding of virology and molecular biology as well as a strong publication record.
