The Gregor Mendel Institute (GMI) is recruiting a Group Leader, primarily targeted at junior scientists (i.e., Assistant Professor). We welcome all applications focusing on basic research with relevance to plant biology, broadly interpreted, but are particularly interested in building strength in computational and genome-enabled biology. Our main criterion is scientific excellence and we favor research with potential for high impact. The GMI offers internationally competitive packages, including a substantial annual research budget and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Candidates are expected to develop an independent research program at the highest level. The contract will be for five years, with a three-year extension subject to review.

The GMI is part of the Vienna BioCenter (VBC), a research cluster with extensive, cutting-edge scientific infrastructure and core facilities hosting 1,700 researchers from over 60 countries, located near the center of Vienna, one of world’s most livable cities. The working language on campus is English, and the environment is family-friendly, with subsidized on-campus child-care facilities.

Please send your application, including a curriculum vitae, a one page motivation letter, and a brief description of your proposed research (no more than two pages), and contact details for at least three referees to Ms. Mariola Glawischnig (recruitment@gmi.oeaw.ac.at).

Informal inquiries can be directed to the Scientific Director, Dr. Magnus Nordborg (magnus.nordborg@gmi.oeaw.ac.at), or to any other GMI group leader.

Review of applications for the present search will begin December 14th, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled.
