A tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor is open for scientists with a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and postdoctoral research experience. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and medical students and directing a nationally competitive research program in the areas of tumor virology, viral pathogenesis, and host defense mechanisms to viral infections preferably with a focus on bioinformatics. The Department faculty of 12 members directs a training program of some 30 doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows and an NIH-funded Center for Molecular and Tumor Virology staffed with 16 interactive principal investigators in several Departments. Both the Department and the Center are well-equipped for molecular research and are augmented by the LSUHSC Research Core Facility that offers ABSL-3PLUS laboratories and a variety of research core technologies including flow cytometry, high resolution, spinning disc and confocal microscopy, laser capture microdissection, DNA array analysis, next generation sequencing, proteomics, a Redox/Histology core, small animal imaging, and positron emission tomography. Furthermore, faculty will have access to a biorepository established as part of SARS CoV-2 testing (https://www.lsuhs.edu/research/evt-lab).
