Kalpana Laboratory in the Department of Genetics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is seeking to fill a post-doctoral position immediately. Highly motivated PhDs are needed to take part in exciting HIV/AIDS projects.

Kalpana laboratory is investigating host-virus interactions of HIV-1 and the mechanism of persistence and latency. One focus is to study interaction between integrase and INI1/SMARCB1. Solving the structure of INI1/SMARCB1 integrase-binding domain has shed exciting and novel insights about the biology of this interaction. These studies have revealed unprecedented RNA mimicry of INI1/SMARCB1 and led to the development of novel anti-HIV-1 therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, Kalpana laboratory is using single-cell and single-molecule RNA-FISH and single cell RNA-seq to investigate HIV-1 latency and the role of INI1/SMARCB1 on HIV-1 transcriptional and post-transcription events. These techniques are now being extended to the study of SARS-CoV2. The individuals to be appointed will have the opportunity to spearhead these exciting projects designed to unravel the molecular mechanisms of HIV and SARS CoV-2 replication using molecular biology, Biochemistry, Virology, structural biology and cell biology approaches.

Also, please note that NY state has one of the lowest COVID-19 positivity rating!
