Job Details

A postdoctoral fellowship opportunity is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Charles Brenner in the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Institute (DMRI) at Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. The Brenner laboratory examines how nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), the central regulator of metabolism, is disturbed by diseases and conditions including cancer, neuropathy, fatty liver, postpartum and viral infection. By identifying alterations in metabolism, we identify ways to sensitize and kill cancer cells, protect damaged nerves, and improve the repair capacity of damaged tissues.

The postdoctoral fellow will dissect mechanisms of transcriptional, post-translational and metabolomic alterations as a function of metabolic stress in order to better model and develop treatments for metabolic diseases and cancer and to support good health in the face of postpartum and viral challenges. Please read more information about the laboratory at http://brennerlab.net .

Applicants are encouraged to carefully read papers downloadable from https://www.brennerlab.net/curriculumvitae/ (eg. paper #129 on postpartum, #135 on glioma, or our recent work on coronavirus https://doi.org/10.1101/2020.04.17.047480 ) . After reading one or more recent papers, applicants should propose a question or an experiment related to work in the Brenner laboratory.
