Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch’s pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation’s first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women’s Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here.

At Fred Hutch, we believe that the innovation, collaboration, and rigor that result from diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. Fred Hutch is in pursuit of becoming an antiracist organization.  We are committed to ensuring that all candidates hired share our commitment to diversity, antiracism, and inclusion.

The Silberstein lab is seeking to recruit a Research Technician I-II.

The main goal of the laboratory is to combine basic stem cell biology and clinically relevant murine models in order to develop new therapeutic approaches to promote hematopoietic stem cell function in bone marrow failure and to enhance hematopoietic reconstitution after bone marrow transplantation. We are particularly interested in using microenvironment-derived molecules as drugs or therapeutic targets, and have identified several novel niche factors using proximity-based single cell analysis as a discovery strategy (for details, please see Silberstein et al, Cell Stem Cell 2016, Goncalves, Silberstein et al, Cell 2016).

Responsibilities

A successful candidate will work as a part of the highly collaborative team and focus on conducting animal experiments which involve stem cell transplantation, fluorescently-activated cell sorting/analysis and molecular studies of stem cells/progenitors. They will also share responsibility for murine colony maintenance.

The incumbent will be part of a Stem Cell and Gene Therapy Program at the Fred Hutch and interact closely with other laboratories within the Program (Kiem, Adair, Bernstein, Hadland, Doulakov) and those within Integrated Immunotherapy Research Center (Dudakov, Turtle).
