Tenure-track faculty position in ocular biology

The Flaum Eye Institute at the University of Rochester solicits applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position in our research division. With the appointment of a new Chair, the department is looking to expand its research program. We are seeking candidates studying the basic biology or pathophysiology of the visual system. Outstanding scientists who use advanced large-scale molecular approaches (e.g. genetics/genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, metabolomics) to probe ocular biology and disease are encouraged to apply.

Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent, have already demonstrated significant research achievement and the potential to obtain extramural funding. Depending on qualifications, an appointment will be made at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.

A strategic goal of the Flaum Eye Institute is to develop and apply innovative techniques to study the structure and function of healthy and diseased eyes, and to restore or improve vision. Our active faculty group conducts research using a variety of models to understand ocular physiology and pathophysiology, including using multiple in vivo model systems and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPCS) technology.  Among the many strengths of the Flaum Eye Institute is the presence of high-resolution, in vivo, adaptive optics retinal imaging, retinal genetics and stem cell research, as well as expertise with psychophysical approaches to measure and retrain visual function in both humans and animal models.

This position will involve a primary appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology and Flaum Eye Institute at the University of Rochester (see http:/ www.urmc.rochester.edu/eye-institute, which has a long history of collaborative efforts with faculty throughout the University of Rochester, under the umbrella of the Center for Visual Science. Graduate students are a strong part of the Flaum Team, coming from programs in Neuroscience, Cell Biology of Disease, Genetics, Development and Stem Cells, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacology & Physiology, Brain & Cognitive Sciences and Optics.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests, a teaching statement, reprints, and contact information for three references submitted electronically.  Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Interested candidates may apply online at apply.interfolio.com/77670 or contact amy_kiernan@urmc.rochester.edu for more information

Review of complete applications will begin Oct. 1, 2020; applications received after that will be considered until the position is filled.

The University of Rochester is an equal opportunity employer.
