Postdoctoral position in spatial transcriptomics of human tissues at the University of Washington
Postdoctoral position in high-resolution spatial transcriptomics of human tissues at the University of Washington
The laboratories of Drs. Liangcai Gu and Shin Lin in the Departments of Biochemistry and Medicine at the University of Washington invite applications for a joint postdoctoral position in spatial transcriptome sequencing of human tissues. The position is available immediately.
We develop and use novel technologies to in situ read the 'omics' states in morphologically intact tissues on a cellular level to achieve molecular-clinicopathological correlations. We use a spatial barcoding method to globally analyze thousands of RNA transcripts per cell in a tissue section without the need for dissociative steps. To achieve single-cell and subcellular resolution, we use an ultra-dense DNA cluster array (Nature, 2014, 515, 554–557) to generate spatially indexed probes to label cDNA. Currently, we are applying this method to the spatial transcriptomic analysis of healthy and diseased human tissues.
As a member of our tissue mapping team, the successful candidate will play a key role in technology development and applications of the assay to various human tissues. He/she will work with an interdisciplinary team comprised of wetbench, computational, and clinician researchers.
Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Histological tissue sample preparation
- Fluorescence microscopy
- Library preparation for next-generation sequencing
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in related fields including, but not limited to biochemistry, genetics, bioengineering, and bioinformatics. Highly desirable backgrounds/experience include i) histology and ii) next-generation sequencing-related molecular biology and data analysis.
Applicants should have a strong publication record, good spoken and written communication skills, and be highly motivated. Interested applicants should send i) a cover letter briefly describing his/her previous experiences and his/he future research interests/plan, ii) a curriculum vitae, and iii) contact information of three references to Drs. Liangcai Gu (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Shin Lin (email@example.com).
University of Washington is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
