Join a Team that Lives to Improve Lives
People come to Genentech from across disciplines and across the world to solve our most challenging medical conditions. You’ll find inspiration in our passion for biotechnology, our purpose to positively impact the lives of millions of patients and our dedication to our people. Joining Genentech means being part of a tradition of inquiry that will change the world. It means embracing our failures as much as our successes. It requires a willingness to look beyond the edge of what's possible. And a focus on doing the day-to-day work that makes great science happen.

The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA headquarters:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Antibody Engineering,
Koerber and Hymowitz Lab

Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Antibody Engineering department at Genentech.  The successful postdoctoral candidate will focus their research on understanding novel conformational and post-translationally modified states of proteins of therapeutic interest, with an emphasis on developing, characterizing, and applying conformation-specific antibodies.  While several targets of high interest have been identified, the opportunity to drive new projects and technology also exists.  The successful postdoctoral candidate will work closely with a highly collaborative group of scientists whose expertise includes antibody engineering, X-ray crystallography, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM).

This postdoctoral scientist will be responsible for the discovery of novel conformational antibodies and/or antibodies against novel post translational modifications and subsequent biophysical and structural characterization. The individual will also work with collaborators in Oncology and Immunology to apply these novel reagents to study cell signaling.  A proven track-record in protein engineering is highly desirable. Experience in structure determination (X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM) is a plus.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications: PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, bioengineering, and/or structural biology with strong experience in protein biochemistry.  Productive doctoral training is expected and should be reflected through a record of high-impact publications.

Additional Recommended Qualifications:

  • Strong background in molecular biology
  • Proficient in characterizing and engineering proteins or enzymes using analytical biochemical and biophysical methods is preferred
  • Experience with structure determination using X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
